Bittersweet Barracudas Swim Team

The BITTERSWEET BARRACUDAS is a swim team program sponsored by the Bittersweet Swimming & Tennis Association (BSTA) in conjunction with the Colorado State Summer Club Swimming Association (CSSCSA). It is a competitive swimming program for athletes between the ages of 5 and 18 who have reached Level 4 or beyond in the American Red Cross Swim Instruction curriculum. We strongly recommend a physical exam prior to the beginning of the season.

The team is limited to the first 100 swimmers who register.  Open Registration for any remaining swimming slots begins in May. Placement on the team is not guaranteed. Non-BSTA members may register, but registrations will be held in order to give BSTA members priority. The fee covers the costs of team participation, including coaching (practices and meets), meet entries, awards, and concessions. Every swimmer must have a waiver signed by his/her parent or guardian to swim. If at any time parents do not want their athlete(s) to participate due to weather conditions, they have the discretion to keep them out of practice or competition. Each swimmer should come to practice with swim gear (swimsuit, goggles, swim cap) and dry-land workout attire appropriate for the weather, including tennis shoes, towels, and sunscreen.

To provide the best experience possible we ask each family to volunteer at swim meets hosted by our team.  Sign-up posters will be on the wall across from the front desk a few days before each home meet and the Conference Championships, where we‘ll need to provide timers. Many hands are required for successful home meets -- timers, heaters, runners, starter/announcer, concessions, ribbon coordinators, computer entry, set up, and clean up.

Team swimsuits will be available for ordering after practices begin. One-piece swimsuits are required. The official team suit is optional. The team colors are red/black. Team hoodies and t-shirts will also be available to order.

There are several meets scheduled. Notify the coaches if you will not be attending a meet. Refunds are not provided to the team if you are entered in the meet and do not swim.

Swimmers with qualifying times can choose to compete at the CSSCSA State Meet at the end of July. To be eligible a swimmer may practice only with their summer club swim team and compete only in their summer club swim team’s meets in order to be eligible for the State Summer Club Swim Meet. A swimmer who is found violating this rule will be disqualified and all points, medals, and ribbons will be denied the swimmer. The team found violating this rule will be denied the swimmer’s points. The balance of the team’s points, ribbons, medals, and trophies will be denied the team until the team has paid a fine of one hundred dollars ($100.00).
